Our 2019 Rankings Are In!

Our exhaustive testing and review process is complete and we officially have created our top 10 list of the best hosting companies. Our methodology hasn’t changed. In fact, it’s gotten bigger. Thanks to a GoDaddy offering its economy hosting discounted this year, we were able to set up an even bigger network of test sites across a range of web hosting servers. Our network has over 200 websites or varying size and content, all designed to test the speed and reliability of web hosting companies.

More About Our GoDaddy Promo Codes:

For those of you asking, what we did was we registered new .COM domain names for 99 cents at GoDaddy (thanks to the promo code we mentioned!), and then transferred them to other hosting providers that allowed us to transfer for free. You could do this with 50 domain names and only spend $50! The extra domains definitely helped with creating a better range of results for us to examine and report to you.

While our tests aren’t 100% reflective of a web host, our sample sizes are the largest known test on the internet.

The Biggest Surprise? Arvixe

Arvixe was a late edition to our list. We added them as our pool of hosting plans and domain names got bigger. And you know what? They were pretty darned good! The hosting plans come in right in the middle of the pact, but the websites hosted on their servers were fast, zippy, and as far as uptime goes, it was perfect.

Who Took A Tumble? IXwebhosting

IXwebhosting has been among the best hosting companies on our list ever since 2005 when we started testing. But over the past three years, IXwebhosting has started to sag in our reviews. Mainly due to them stripping down their customer support system to almost nothing at all.

The Reliably Good? Hostgator and GoDaddy.

We massively expanded our pool of Hostgator and GoDaddy-hosted websites to better reflect the fact that they are the two most popular hosting companies in the world. You can have twenty hosting plans with Hostgator and not have them on the same server, so we decided to create as many as we can to get a more accurate gauge of what an average Hostgator’s customer experience would be. The result? More of the same, but in a good way. The websites we hosted had really good uptime across the whole network, and customer support was as good as it was last year, and the year before that, and so on.

The Bottom Line? Hosting is Getting Better.

Before we started reviewing hosting providers, there were hosts that would have servers down for days, if not weeks. Now, datacenters are getting more sophisticated in their abilities to recognize spikes in traffic, or server-related issues, and allocate resources to prevent problems before they become problems that affect customers. While they still aren’t perfect, customers can feel more comfortable that the hosting company they choose will be able to handle their website and create a stress-free experience when they are setting up their website.
